Dorothy Irby was born on April 30, 1942 in Gaffney, SC, to Bertha and Austin Hamilton. Dorothy moved to Rochester in the early 60’s While her kids were young she worked as a teacher’s aide. Later in life Dorothy was employed at the State Hospital where she retired.
Dorothy enjoyed shopping for antiques, reading the bible, and spending time with her family. She was a dedicated member of Bethany Spiritual Church of God. She enjoyed speaking at church and participating in functions at Gilda’s Club of Rochester. She also loved to travel.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents Bertha and Austin Hamilton, her brothers Arthur, David, Willie and Charles, her sisters Peggy and Ruth.
Dorothy Went home on February 8, 2014 after a 4-year battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Eddie Irby Sr., her children Patricia Keeter, Joseph Jr. (Kimberly), Alan (Angela), Philip (Julia), Brian (Ann), James (Rolanda) Foster, Step-children, Eddie Jr., Rita, Carolyn; three sisters Hazel, Lena and Sue, beloved caretaker/granddaughter Candice Edmondson, grandchildren, Jerrell, Jamaal, Bianca, Jamon, Arkishia, Asia, Kaprisha, Katara, Joseph III, Alan Jr., Latisha, Jasmins, Anthony, Tamica, Monisha, Dionna, Eric, Samantha, Brian, Francois, Ebony, Brian, Amber, Octavia, Ashley, Drequan, Ricky, Latabrione, James, Quinesha, Jamar and Jameik. 29 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Calling hours are from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be helped on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Spiritual Church of God located at 65 Jefferson Terrace, Rochester, NY 14608. Interment will be at Grove Place Cemetery, 2775 Chili Ave, Rochester, NY 14624.
