Obituary for William Edward McClendon

MR. WILLIAM EDWARD MCCLENDON was born November 2, 1928 in Macon County, Georgia to the late Laura Bahren and George McClendon. He attended school in Macon County, completing 9th Grade.
After leaving school, William moved to Orlando, Florida where he met and fell in love with his childhood sweetheart, Essie Mae Smith. Three children were born to their union: one daughter, Dale Radcliff and two sons, Anthony Smith and Reginald McClendon.

William eventually relocated to Rochester, New York in 1955. Here, he began a career in the Construction industry, producing many buildings and homes in the Rochester area. Not very long afterward, William became employed with the Eastman Kodak Company from which he retired after 35 years of service.
In his spare time, William enjoyed going to his church as a member of the Peace Baptist Church, located at 6 Oregon Street in Rochester. He was also very helpful in driving the church van for many years, picking up members who were in need of transportation.
He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the horses race at OTB. One of his greatest pleasures was simply spending time with his grandchildren.

William “Popeye” McClendon was called to rest on October 4, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Anthony Smith, Reginald McClendon and Clara Mae McClendon. William leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Dale Radcliff; four grandchildren: Charles Doles, Sheketa Smith, Traubauris Smith and Frederick Radcliff; 21 great-grandchildren: Autumn, Jeremiah, Isaiah, India, Iyana, Isis, Shy’Kira, Traubauris Jr., Jada, Gloria, Malcolm, Devin, Kyndesia, Jordan, Jenya, Demetrious, Jacinda, Savion, Julion, Jazellah and Janyis, other relatives, church family and friends.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
